Capracotta. Parish Church of S. Maria in Cielo Assunta

It is located on the highest part of the town, in the Terra Vecchia district, and was the seat of the collegiate church. It is not known what the current church was like, which is the result of a total renovation in 1725. The antiquity of the church is testified by a bas-relief of the bell tower, which bears the symbol of the Tree of Life, from the Renaissance period, the adjacent walls, with the portal of the chapel of the Visitation, show holes for the bells. The stone bell tower, with a square plan, has its current appearance, the result of the restoration of 1898. The baptismal font in walnut wood, with gold decorations, restored in 1980, and a stone font can also be attributed to the archaic church. In the 18th century the civic coat of arms was moved to the main altar by the Town Hall, and the church became the symbol of the entire Capracottese community.

Molise is an Italian mountainous region with a stretch of coast overlooking the Adriatic Sea. It includes a part of the Abruzzo National Park in the Apennine mountain range, with a rich wildlife.

The municipality owes its name to the small Carpino river that flows in its territory from north to west. In turn, the Carpino river received its name from the abundance of the "carpioni", the trout males, whose fishing in its waters is numerous. The origins of Carpinone, although not very ancient, date back to at least the tenth century since in 1064 the count of Isernia Bernardo had founded the Monastery of San Marco here, then donated to the abbey of Cassino. Belonged to the County of Isernia during the Lombard domination, in the Norman and Swabian era it belonged to the County of Molise. At the beginning of the Angevin period it became a fiefdom of Tommaso d'Evoli and returned to his family in 1382 after it had belonged first to the Tucciaco family and then to the Count of Gravina.

Benedictine Abbey of S. Vincenzo al Volturno

The Benedictine Abbey of San Vincenzo al Volturno is located about two kilometers from the sources of the river of the same name, in a favorable position on the fertile Piana di Rocchetta, defended by the Mainarde and Meta ranges to the west and the Matese massif to the south. On the affairs of the monastery we are informed by the Chronicon Vulturnense, an illuminated manuscript written in 1130 by a monk named Giovanni, who had in turn used internal sources of the VIII-XI century monastery. According to the Chronicon, the foundation dates back to the beginning of the 8th century and was due to three nobles from Benevento, Paldo, Taso and Tato, and to their search for a place to devote themselves to the ascetic life. The chosen area was frequented in late Roman times as shown by the remains of a church and a sepulchral area from the 5th-6th century AD

Matrice. Chiesa di Santa Maria della Strada

Nostra Signora della Via (Italian: Santa Maria della Strada) is an abbey in the municipality of Matrice, Campobasso. The date of construction of the abbey is not known, but it was consecrated in August 1148 by Peter II, archbishop of Benevento. In 1153 it appears in a list of churches and monasteries under the jurisdiction of Peter II drawn up for Pope Anastasius IV. The first abbot may have been called Landulfus, as "Abbas Landulfus" was engraved on a paving stone inside the church. Nazzarius is named abbot in a document from 1176. His foundation has historically been linked to the monastery of Santa Sofia of Benevento, but there is no evidence to support this claim. It is possible that the great abbey of Montecassino was involved, but the fact that the abbey is not listed as a subject house in medieval documents casts doubt on this claim. The eponymous Santa Maria de Strata appears in a register of the Abbey's possessions, but is believed to refer to a separate monastery in the vicinity of San Germano.

Castel San Vincenzo, Isernia, Molise, Italy. The lake. It is an artificial reservoir built at the end of the fifties for hydroelectric purposes. It occupies an area of 6.140 km². The lake of Castel San Vincenzo is an artificial reservoir built in the late 1950s for hydroelectric purposes. The lake occupies an area of 0.614 km² and has a useful capacity of 10 million cubic meters. The waters that feed the lake come mainly from the streams of the Montagna Spaccata in the nearby municipalities of Alfedena and Barrea. The waters of these streams feed the Enel power stations in Pizzone, Rocchetta a Volturno and Colli a Volturno. Although artificial, the lake is well harmonized with the surrounding landscape of mountains and woods. The aquatic fauna consists mainly of salmonids. Near the lake, where it is possible to engage in fishing and other water sports, there is an area equipped for camping and a riding stable.

Castiglione di Carovilli (IS)

Castiglione di Carovilli (o Castiglione) è una frazione del comune di Carovilli, nella provincia di Isernia, Molise. Sito in una zona di grande valore paesaggistico e faunistico, oggi conta circa 200 abitanti, mentre agli inizi del secolo la popolazione era attorno al migliaio di unità. Rilevante è la presenza dell'Oasi WWF di Collearso (attraversata dal fiume Trigno) nella quale si possono osservare molte specie di mammiferi (cinghiale, daino, volpe, lupo, puzzola europea, tasso, donnola), uccelli (nibbio), rettili (vipera comune, lucertola, biscia) e anfibi. Per ciò che riguarda il patrimonio storico e architettonico va segnalata l'antica chiesa sul colle, risalente al Quattrocento, che oggi, specie nei mesi estivi, ospita manifestazioni teatrali e di musica classica.
